Inspired by a lack of opportunities for musicians to participate in chamber music during the school year, Tony Lu and Abigail Mau founded YCMD to provide a space for more advanced musicians to come together and enjoy music. Created in 2024, YCMD has over 30 members between Hockaday, St. Marks, and Greenhill. By 2027, we hope to include Ursuline, Jesuit, ESD, and Cistercian.
During the school year, we host two recitals in January and April; Each recital has a matching Chamber Music Party in which members practice performing their piece, receive feedback, and have the option to participate in sight-reading activities; Finally, YCMD members can be seen performing at St. Marks and Hockaday coffeehouses, community service events, and senior homes throughout the year. Although the main YCMD season is the academic year, we also organize a short summer camp for musicians before the start of school.
